Business schools are rapidly changing how they teach and use artificial intelligence (AI) as part of their core mission. Rather than treating AI as something to ban or limit, many institutions now see it as a valuable tool that students and educators should embrace responsibly.

A new collaborative report from AACSB and partners shows that business schools around the world are shifting from experimenting with AI to making it a fundamental part of classroom instruction and learning outcomes. Instead of simply reacting to the presence of AI, educators are asking deeper questions about how to integrate it throughout the curriculum in ways that truly benefit students and meet workplace demands.

Early on, many institutions were cautious or restrictive about AI tools. Today, however, there’s a growing belief that students should engage with technologies like generative AI and be taught not just how to use them, but how to verify and evaluate the results. Faculty are placing greater trust in students’ ability to use AI thoughtfully while also ensuring students build essential skills that cannot be replaced by machines.

AI is no longer optional. Some schools are now requiring introductory AI training for all students, embedding learning goals such as understanding core AI principles, applying AI for business productivity, designing AI-enabled solutions, and evaluating ethical concerns. This reflects a broader move to equip graduates with both the technical fluency and critical thinking needed in AI-driven workplaces.

At the same time, business schools are aware of challenges: employers want AI skills but don’t always specify exactly what, and it’s important to balance tool-use with foundational knowledge. Many institutions are also working to ensure fair access to AI resources so all students can benefit.

In short, AI education in business schools is evolving from tentative pilot projects to thoughtful, strategic integration, helping prepare future professionals with the skills and judgment to work alongside intelligent technologies.
